  Shane Steven Filan, Mark Michael Patrick Feehily, Kian John Francis Egan, Nicholas Bernard James Adam Byrne의 4명과 2005년 솔로로 전향하면서 탈퇴한 Brian Nicholas McFadden으로 구성되었던 아일랜드 출신의 그룹이다.   
99년 4월에 발표한 첫 싱글 'Swear It Again' 을 시작으로 'If I Let You Go,' 'Flying Without Wings,'  'Season's in the Sun', 그리고 2000년 4월의  'Fool Again' 까지 모두 넘버원 히트곡이 되었다. 영국에서 한 그룹이나 뮤지션의 첫 5개 싱글이 모두 1위에 오른 일은 처음있는 일이다.
웨스트라이프는 1998년 보이존의 매니저 루이스 월쉬와 보이존의 로넌 키팅에 의해 탄생하게 되었으며 역시 아일랜드 출신인 보이존은 90년대 중반부터 영국 음악계를 휘어잡고 있는 인기 그룹이다.

 

1999년에 발표한 웨스트라이프의 데뷔 앨범 [Westlife]는 영국에서만 백만장 이상이 팔렸고, 아시아 시장을 공략한 데 이어 현재에는 미국 시장에도 싱글과 앨범을 발표해 좋은 반응을 얻고 있다.
