E.L.O로 더 잘 알려진 Electric light Orchestra...
1971년 기타리스트 Roy Wood와 드러머 Bev Bevan이 있던 록 그룹
The Move와, 로컬 밴드 Idle Race의 리더였던 기타리스트 겸 보컬리스트
Jeff Lynne이 결합하여 탄생시킨 영국의 아트 록 그룹이다

 

몇 차례 멤버 교체를 거친 ELO는 75년 5집 [Face The Music]을 내놓고

나서야 어느 정도 라인업이 안정되는데, 베이스 주자이자 보컬리스트인

Kelly Groucett을 비롯해 휴 맥도월(첼로), 멜빈 게일(첼로),

믹 캐민스키(바이올린) 등이 새로 영입되었다.

 

 

 

'Can't Get It Out Of My Head'가 미국에서 큰 히트를 하였고
런던 심포닉 오케스트라에서 활동했던 뮤지션들을 초대해

클래식과 록을 접목시킨 타이틀곡을 비롯해 'Evil Woman',

'Strange Magic' 등이 세계적인 히트를 거뒀다.

 

1976년 가을에는 [A New World Record]를 발표하여

더블 플래티넘을 기록하였고 'Living Thing'과 'Telephone Line'이

차트에 랭크되었으며, 1977년에는 더블 앨범 [Out Of The Blue]가

트리플 플래티넘을 기록했다.

 

1979년에는 Colombia 레코드사로 이적하여 [Discovery]를 발표했는데,
이 앨범에서는 부드러운 팝발라드 'Midnight Blue'가 많은

사랑을 얻게 되었고 , 1981년에는 존 레논 추모곡인 'Hold on Tight'와

발라드 'Ticket To The Moon'이 수록된 [Time]이 연속적으로

히트곡들을 발표한 ELO는 1975년에서 1981년 사이에

차트 40위 안에 드는 곡을 무려 17곡이나 탄생시켰다.
