Four Strong Winds / Neil Young

 

 

 

오랜 시간이 흘렀음에도 닐 영의 음악은 기억 속에서 지워지지 않고 있다.

그의 읊조리는 보컬과 어쿠스틱 기타 연주는 들으면 들을수록 빠져들게 했고,

그의 청년 의식에서 발산된 메시지 있는 가사는 많은 음악 팬들에게 동지 의식을

심어주기에 충분했다.

70년대를 장식했던 닐 영의 전성기 시절,
국내에서는 그의 많은 앨범들은 해적 음반으로

발매되어 음악 팬들의 친구로 자리잡았다.

 

60년대에 음악계에 등장한 닐 영은 외롭고 고독에 쌓인 분위기로

어쿠스틱 기타를 연주하며 독특한 매력을 발산했다. 이러한 요소는

당시 국내 젊은이들의 공허한 마음에 공감대를 형성했고,

음악 다방가에서는 그의 노래를 하루가 멀다하고 틀어댔다.

 

그러나 그의 음악은 오늘의 시점에서 다시 들어보아도

무엇인가 끌리는 마력이 있다. '66년 그는 포크 그룹 버팔로 스프링 필드를

출범시키며 포크와 컨트리,록을 결합시킨 포크록 음악을 탄생시켰다.

그후 솔로 앨범 "Neil young"을 선보인 그는 자신만의 색채를 띠며

활발한 활동을 전개했다.

 

 

이곡은 1964년에 발표된 Ian과 Sylvia의 듀엣 곡을

Neil Young이 리메이크한 것.

 

먹고 살기 힘든 시절...60년대 일을 찾아 이리저리 떠돌아 다니는 일용직

일꾼들에 대한 애환을 담은 노래로 삶의 무상함이 묻어 나는 노래다.
