Smokie는 1969년 당시 고교생이던 크리스 노먼(보컬), 테리 우틀리(베이스) 등 4명이 라는 이름으로 그룹을 결성했다가 1975년 지금의 이름으로 바꾸었다. 그룹명은 담배연기처럼 몽롱한 분위기의 사운드를 만들어낸 데서 유래했다. 이들이 1976년말 발표한 'Living Next Door to Alice'는 세계적으로 크게 히트했으며, 이후 여성로커 수지 쿼트로와 함께 부른 'Stumblin' In'을 비롯해 'What CanI Do' 'Mexican Girl' 등으로 1980년대 초까지 큰 인기를 누렸다. 이들의 감미로운 멜로디는 한국 팝애호가들에게서 매우 높은 인기를 누렸는데, 'Living Next Door to Alice', 'What Can I Do' 등이 수록된 앨범은 pop 음반으로는 ..
