1946년 1월 미국 Tennessee주 세비어에서 태어난
Dolly는 12세 때부터 노래하기 시작하였습니다.
그녀의 자서전적인 노래 'Coat of Many Colors'에서
노래하듯, 가난한 생활을 하며 어머니가
만들어준 누더기옷을 입고 노래를 불렀습니다.
18살 때 고향을 떠나 컨트리의 본고장인 내쉬빌로 진출하여
Porter Wagner의 눈에 띄어 출세가도로 진입하게 됩니다.
내쉬빌에 진출한 이후, 듀엣으로 활동하다가
73년 그녀는 솔로활동으로 전환하고
74년 2월 첫 데뷔앨범인 "Jolene"을 발표하여
컨트리 싱글차트 상위권에 진입하였습니다.
77년 가을에 발표한 "Have you come again"이
다시 컨트리 차트 정상을 차지하였으며
1980년 영화 배우 제인폰다, 릴리 톰슨과 함께 <9 to 5> 출연하며
주제곡을 불러 첫 빌보드 싱글차트 1위 차지하였습니다.
1983년 컨트리 가수 케니 로저스와 듀엣곡인
"Islands in the Stream"으로 다시 빌보드 1위를 차지하였고,
80년대 중반으로 접어들어 한동안 부진함을 보이다가
87년 Linda Ronstadt, Emmylou Harris와 함께
Trio를 발표하면서 건재함 과시하였습니다.
Elvis Presley 외에는 컨츄리 가수로 시작하여 전세계적, 그리고
40년 이상을 꾸준한 사랑을 받는 유일한 가수로 성장한 그녀는
'Country Legend', 'Country Queen'이라는 별명답게 미국 컨츄리
음악을 대표하는 현존하는 최고의 여가수로 꼽히고 있습니다.
1967년 히트곡인 첫곡 'Dumb Blonde'를 비롯하여 많은 곡을 직접
작사 작곡하고 기타, 밴조, 크로마하프 등 여러가지 악기를 직접 다루는
다재 다능한 그녀는 2005년 60세를 맞이하여 'Those Were The Days'
앨범을 발표하는 등 최근에도 왕성한 활동을 보이고 있는 노익장입니다
