Can't Fight The Moonlight / LeAnn Rimes

 

 

LeAnn Rimes는 십대 초반의 어린 나이에 Country 가수로 데뷔,
천재적인 재능으로 금방 스타덤에 오르며 Country Fan들을
놀라게 한 바 있다. 그리고 십대 후반에 들어 서는 미국 외
지역의 일반 Pop Fan들까지 포섭하는 감성을 발휘함으로써,
스타덤을 더욱 공고히 유지하기도 했다.

1982년에 Mississippi주 Jackson에서 태어나 Texas에서 성장하던
그녀는 1996년, 방송 DJ로 활동 중이던 Bill Mack에게 픽업돼
데뷔앨범 [Blue]를 출반하게 된다. 당시 LeAnn의 목소리는 13세의
나이가 믿어지지 않을만큼 성숙되어 있었고, Album과 Title
Track이 각각 큰 Hit를 기록하였다.

 

이러한 인기에 힘입어 1997년 초기 레코딩 모음집인[Unchained
Melody: The Early Years]와 커버 곡 모음집 [You Light Up My
Life: Inspirational Songs]가 차례로 발매되었고, 두 장 모두
차트 1위에 오르는 업적을 이룩하기도 했다. 이즈음 LeAnn의
최대 히트곡은 "How Do I Live"였다. 그 해 개봉된 영화
"Con Air"에 Trisha Yearwood가 부른 버전으로 삽입되기도 했던
이 곡은 빌보드 싱글차트 2위," Adult Contemporary" 부문
1위를 차지하며 LeAnn의 인기를 최정상으로 견인하였다.
또한 1998년에 발매된 정규 신보 [Sittin' on Top Of The World]
에서는 "Looking Through Your Eyes"와 "Commitment" 등의
싱글이 인기를 얻었다.

 

      

 

([Sittin' on Top Of The World]의 국내 발매 버전에는 "How Do
I Live"가 수록되기도 했다). 1999년 또 하나의 커버곡 모음집인
[LeAnn Rimes]를 내놓은 LeAnn은, 2001년에는 완연한 Crossover
Pop풍의 앨범 [I Need You]를 발표하며 본격적인 Pop Star로서의
행보에 나서게 된다.

"이러한 변신의 배경에는 2000년 개봉된 영화 "Coyote Ugly"에
삽입된 "Can't Fight The Moonlight"의 대히트가 큰 역할을
했는데, 이 곡은 2000~2001년 팝계 최대의 화제작 중 하나로
거론될 정도로 폭 넓은 인기를 끌었다. 이 곡의 작곡자인
Diane Warren은 "How Do I Live"도 작곡한 바 있었다.

2002년 어느덧 20대에 접어든 리앤은 Pop적 감성이 훨씬 노골화된

앨범 [Twisted Angel]을 발표함과 동시에 전에 보기 힘들었던

섹시한 비주얼로 무장하며 팬들을 경악시키기도 했다.
