Renaissance와 함께 브리티쉬 클래시컬 프로그레시브 록의 황금기를 누렸던 Curved Air... 

런던의 왕립음악원 출신인 바이올린 주자 Darryl Way와 건반주자 Francis Monkman이

주축이 되었던 Curved Air는 비발디의 '사계'를 일렉트릭 바이올린의 리딩과 록적인

필의 연주로 편곡해 데뷔 초기부터 세인들의 관심을 불러모았던 밴드였다.

이들의 데뷔작이었던 [Air Conditioning]은 발매되자마자 어렵지 않게

영국 앨범 차트 탑 10을 장식했다.

 

클래식, 재즈, 록 등이 혼합된 음악성을 지녔던 Curved Air는 장르의 크로스오버 현상이

심화되던 당시의 음악계 상황과 맞아 떨어지면서 상업적으로도 성공을 거두어들였다.
밴드의 간판이었던 여성 보컬리스트 소냐 크리스티나의 보컬과 무대 매너 또한 사람들의

이목을 집중케 만든 주요 요인이었다.

 

Eddie Jobson, Stewart Copeland 등 굵직한 뮤지션이 거쳐갔던 대형밴드였으나 데릴 웨이,

프란시스 몽크먼 등 창단 멤버들이 빠져나가면서 힘을 쓰지 못하고 도태되어 갔다.

 

Curved Air 초기 음반의 특징이라면 Sonja Kristina의 카리스마 넘치는 보컬과 그것 못지 않은

Darryl Way의 바이올린 소리다.  물론 이 곡이 실렸던 세번째 음반에서는 Darryl Way의

바이올린 소리는 여전하기는 하지만, Sonja Kristina가 부드러운 목소리로 노래 불러주는

발라드인 이 곡이 가장 들을 만 하다...
